The RAD School of Mural Arts
An experiential arts program empowering kids and teens to learn mural creation, build real-world skills, and turn creativity into opportunity.

Where Young Artists Grow
The RAD School of Mural Arts is an afterschool and summer program designed to give kids and teens hands-on experience in mural creation. Founded by Jason Gilmore, a muralist and public school teacher with over 20 years of experience, the program blends artistic training with real-world application. Students learn painting, drawing, and design while participating in collaborative mural projects that bring art into their communities.
Inspired by a successful middle school mural project in Asheville, the RAD School was created to provide a structured, team-oriented environment similar to youth sports leagues—but for artists. The program offers a creative outlet that builds confidence, work ethic, and collaboration skills, while also opening pathways for students to become paid mural apprentices. It’s more than art education—it’s a foundation for future careers and lifelong creativity.
Learn. Create. Thrive. Our Programs & Services:
Mural Arts Training
Students receive hands-on instruction in painting, drawing, and design fundamentals, all tailored toward large-scale mural work. This program builds both artistic skills and confidence, preparing students to contribute to real community art projects and eventually pursue paid opportunities.

Mural Projects & Commissions
The RAD School collaborates with local businesses and organizations to design and create custom murals. These projects not only beautify spaces but also give students the opportunity to work alongside experienced artists, gaining real-world experience in planning, teamwork, and execution.

Workshops & Restoration
We offer engaging workshops for schools, groups, and communities looking to explore mural arts in a short-term format. Additionally, our mural restoration services help preserve existing artwork, teaching students the value of maintaining and honoring public art.
